Privacy Policy — Media Cleanup

This Privacy Policy describes how Media Cleanup ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and handles information when you install and use the Media Cleanup Shopify application. By installing Media Cleanup, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information we collect

When you install Media Cleanup, we access the following information from your Shopify store via the Shopify API:

Store information: Your Shopify store domain, store name, and plan type
Media and file data: File names, URLs, sizes, and file types — used to perform the media scan and identify unused files
Product, collection, blog, and page data: We scan references across these resources to determine which media files are actively in use
Theme file data: Theme templates and settings are scanned to detect media references
Billing information: Processed entirely through Shopify's billing API. We do not store payment card details.

We do not access customer personal data, order history, or any information outside the scope of media and content references.

2. How we use your information

We use store data solely to provide the Media Cleanup service:

To scan your media library and identify files that are not in active use
To generate storage analytics and usage reports for your dashboard
To safely move selected files to trash and process permanent deletions you confirm
To process product images through our AI model for alt text generation (on eligible plans)
To track your plan usage and apply the correct subscription tier
To provide support when you contact us

3. Image processing and data retention

We do not store your media files. When alt text is generated for an image, the image URL is passed to our AI provider for processing and the result is returned immediately. Images are not saved to our servers and are not used to train any AI model.

Scan results and file metadata are stored in our database to power your dashboard. You can delete all stored data at any time by uninstalling the app.

4. Third-party services

Media Cleanup uses the following third-party services to operate:

Shopify: We operate as a Shopify app and access your store through the Shopify Partner API under their terms
AI model provider: Image content is processed by our AI provider to generate alt text. Images are not retained by this provider after processing.
Hosting infrastructure: Our servers are hosted on industry-standard cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit.

We do not sell, rent, or share your store data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

5. Data security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:

Encrypted data transmission via HTTPS/TLS
Encrypted storage for sensitive credentials and API tokens
Access controls limiting who can access production data
Regular security reviews of our infrastructure

6. Data deletion

When you uninstall Media Cleanup, we permanently delete all data associated with your store within 30 days, in compliance with Shopify's mandatory app data deletion requirements. You can also request immediate deletion by contacting us at the address below.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR, CCPA, and others) to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you through the Shopify app interface. Continued use of Media Cleanup after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
